"On a large campus, a sorority creates a community, but on a smaller campus like ours, a sorority that values the pillars of finding sisterhood, community involvement, academic excellence, and cultural awareness builds a family."                  -- Alexis Nguyen

ABOUT FAWKES

The University of Denver FAWKES interest group stands for: Fierce, Aspiring Women Keeping Each-other Strong. FAWKES was founded in May 2012 and was fully recognized as an Asian-Interest Sorority Interest Group as well as established members of the DU’s Multicultural Greek Council in October 2012.

We are a group of 12 enthusiastic women striving for an Asian-interest Sorority at DU to unify and serve the campus as well as local communities. Our Asian American-Interest Sorority Interest Group is more than a group of women who want to help start an Asian-interest sorority on the University of Denver campus. Emerging from various cultural backgrounds, we are a diverse group of motivated and passionate young leaders determined to: build a closer DU and Denver community with cultural awareness, encourage academia, foster sisterhood, and expand our outreach through philanthropic support to local charities. FAWKES not only represents the intent to begin a sorority, but also to create a robust and lasting impact on campus and society.

DU currently does not have any Asian-interest sororities. We will be hosting fundraisers and cultural awareness events while bonding with each other and creating a stronger Asian presence at a university where the 5.2% Asian-American demographic is separate and disconnected. Traditional Greek life and other multicultural sororities and fraternities have established a tradition on our institution and we believe that by chartering an Asian-interest Sorority on campus, it is an extraordinary opportunity to create our own legacy that will benefit our collegiate careers and positively influence other prospective female students.

"Bringing this sorority to DU will help myself, as well as future Asian-American women who attend DU, to have a place they can go to where they will fit in.”                                                                                                            - Kimberly Che
